Through the Inter-Tribal Health Authority, we offer ophthalmology to First Nations community members throughout Vancouver Island. We hold clinics with 50 of the 51 First Nations communities. Throughout the years that I’ve been with the program, I have built relationships with many of our clients. The age group that we offer service to is the older generation, so throughout the years I’ve noticed that returning to these communities, some of our past clients have since passed on. You build relationships with these clients over the years. When you travel back, looking forward to seeing certain clients and sometimes learning of their passing, it really hits close to home. You build personal relationships upon the work relationships with these people.
